  • U-POL Barcoat Alcohol-Based Isolating Primer 1 L is a professional fast-drying isolating primer designed to be used as a barrier layer between an old painted surface and new paint system layers.

This product is especially useful in restoration, body repair and repainting work when the surface is old, sensitive to solvents, of unknown composition or there is a risk that new paint or primer may lift the old coating. Barcoat helps isolate the old paint film and reduce unwanted reactions such as softening, wrinkling, lifting of old paint or pigment bleed-through.

U-POL Barcoat is used on old hardened paint coatings when the surface is properly prepared, cleaned, degreased and abraded. The product can be used before further priming when a safe isolating layer is required before applying paint materials containing stronger solvents.

The primer is ready to use, so it does not need to be mixed with hardener. It is applied with a spray gun in a thin coat, allowed to dry and then must be overcoated with a suitable primer or filler. The manufacturer states that Barcoat should not be sanded before applying further paint system layers.

Important: Barcoat is not recommended for direct application onto bare metal, aluminium or galvanised surfaces. These surfaces require a suitable adhesion or anti-corrosion primer according to the paint system requirements.

    Suitable substrates:

    Old hardened paint layers

    Original paint coatings

    Solvent-sensitive old paint surfaces

    Restoration surfaces

    Properly prepared repainting surfaces

Not suitable for direct use on:

    Bare steel

    Aluminium

    Galvanised surfaces

    Unprepared or dirty surfaces

    Use:

Before use, the surface must be clean, dry, degreased and properly abraded. Remove wax, silicone, grease, dust, old coating residues and other contamination that may reduce adhesion.

Old hardened paint coating should be abraded with a suitable grade abrasive. After sanding, clean the surface again with a degreaser and allow it to dry completely.

The product is supplied ready to use. Mix thoroughly before application. Apply one thin, even coat with a spray gun, following the manufacturer’s technical recommendations.

After application, allow Barcoat to dry. After approx. 1 hour at 20 °C, the surface can be overcoated with a suitable primer or filler. Sanding the Barcoat layer before further coating is not recommended.

    Note:

The product is intended for professional use. Do not apply directly onto bare metal, aluminium or galvanised surfaces. Before use on an unknown substrate, it is recommended to test in a less visible area and make sure the surface and the following paint system are compatible.
